General radiology
Radiology is the science of using x-rays to create images of various parts of the body. X-rays are quick, easy, and effective tools to diagnose injuries, bone diseases, fractures, infections, degenerative diseases, cancer, and many other conditions. X-rays require a prescription.
Having an x-ray involves exposing a part of your body to a very small dose of radiation to produce an image. Some x-rays reach a film or digital plate without being absorbed by the body part or organs being examined and create the image used for diagnosis.
Preparation
No preparation is required for a conventional x-ray. Depending on the area being examined, you will have to put on a gown, take off your jewellery, glasses, or any other metal objects that could affect the image quality or block the areas being examined.
Procedure
All conventional x-rays are done on a walk-in basis. You could experience some discomfort related to your initial complaint or to the positioning for the x-ray during the procedure. Remaining absolutely still in the proper position is key to obtaining the best results. X-rays are painless.
Contraindications
Before the procedure, women must inform their doctor and x-ray technician if they are pregnant or could be.
All clinics belonging to the Imagix-Imagerie médicale network offer general radiology services on a walk-in basis.
General radiology services are 100% covered by the RAMQ.
